![]() ![]() While it doesn’t sport the 144Hz refresh rate of the Asus, in reality, you can’t really tell the difference. Samsung and HP Chromebooks may have sharper, albeit smaller QHD+ displays, but let’s not forget: The price and display size of the Acer is hard to beat in the Chromebook world. There’s plenty of visual real estate for gaming and media consumption with an expansive 16-inch WQXGA 2560 x 1600 (16:10) display, making it a joy to use, whether you’re gaming for hours on end, staring at spreadsheets, or consuming media. The camera is flanked on both sides by speakers, which provides good quality sound, but bear in mind that there’s no noise canceling to keep vacuum cleaners, background chatter, or crying babies at bay. In other words, the camera is best saved as a backup to your primary webcam. The single front-facing 1080p one of the 516 GE struggles with contrast and detail in the daytime and graininess in low light conditions. Why manufacturers don’t optimize their web-cam sensors will continue to remain a mystery. It usually took about 45 seconds to a minute before it resolved itself, but it was pretty distracting. The sensitivity would be way off, it wouldn’t register finger swipes 80% of the time, and tap gestures stopped working. One idiosyncrasy that popped up with the trackpad was that, whenever Xbox Cloud Gaming Beta crashes (which happens one or two out of ten times), the trackpad behaved really strangely. And speaking of resistance, apparently, the keys and all touch surfaces are anti-microbially treated to reduce the growth rate of stain or odor-causing bacteria. The OceanGlass moisture-resistant trackpad is responsive enough with very little drag. At the very least, a larger function (customizable) row would be more becoming of a gaming laptop. Aaron LeongĪnother improvement I’d like to see is customizable gaming keys, especially considering how much unused surface real estate there is on the Acer Chromebook 516 GE. Besides the usual ChromeOS backlight brightness control, Google has now added the ability to alter the color of the backlight to match the wallpaper (harking to Android’s Material You) or a few other color options. It’s fine in the dark, but you’ll be strained to see it in the daytime. One area that was disappointing, especially for a device with gaming aspirations, is the brightness of the RGB backlighting - or rather, the lack thereof. I would have preferred slightly less sponginess and maybe more audible keypresses, but ultimately not bad for a first-time effort. I typed most of this review on this review unit, and while it’s not a mechanical keyboard, it has enough rebound, response time, and feedback for churning out your essays or future novel between hectic gaming sessions. One minor thing is that, with all the space on the sides of the Chromebook, it would have been nice to have a second USB-A port for when the only one is taken up for a mouse dongle. All the I/Os are situated on the left and right sides of the machine. 5G Gigabit Ethernet (2.5GbE) LAN, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, one 3.5mm audio port, and one Kensington lock. There are two pass-through USB-C, one USB-A, one full-sized HDMI, an RJ-45 2. Port selection is pretty solid for its kind. ![]()

![]() ![]() It occurred to me that I could make a HyperCard stack to do the same thing for Mini vMac. I noted that the Basilisk emulator has a Preferences screen to alter the configuration of the emulation. That way I could try out a Mac SE with the original 512 x 342 pixel screen, or a 1024 x 800 pixel Mac SE FDHD, or a colour Mac II. I ended up downloading the source code of the project and repeatedly generating minivmac binaries for differing configurations, then renaming the resulting binary to a name corresponding to the configuration. It’s these options that permit you to select things like target operating system, model of Mac to emulate, screen size, etc. The mini vMac project provides open source code that allows you to compile the minivmac application using differing command line options. The TAC- 15 arrows are 26 1⁄4 inches long and weigh 425 grains. Due to the incredible amount of force generated by the TAC bows it requires a special arrow. Unlike other crossbows, the TAC-15 shoots arrows that are more like conventional arrows rather than bolts. The entire TAC Series is manufactured in the USA with the majority of the parts produced at the PSE facility in Tucson, Arizona. There are many military and SWAT applications in addition to hunter and recreational shooters" claims Shelby. "The original TAC was limited to countries where AR-15's were legal, but now we have the self contained versions and they have really taken off. The TAC-15 following isn't confined to the U.S. The width of the bow measures 16 3⁄4 inches axel to axel at rest and an unbelievable 11 3⁄4 inches axel to axel at full draw, making it ultra compact in the brush or on the stand. At the end of each X Tech limb, PSE has placed an oversized cam producing a 17 3⁄4-inch power stroke capable of launching a 425-grain, 16 1⁄4-inch arrow at a blistering 412 feet per second - producing up to 160 pounds of kinetic energy. The limbs, with the proprietary Vibracheck backstop, which dampens all string vibration, make the TAC-15 not only one of the fastest crossbow on the market, but one of the quietest. This system forces the limbs in an outward direction canceling each other out. Whereas, the TAC-15 eliminates friction and is more accurate because it allows us to tune the arrow for perfect flight." claims Shelby.Īll of this speed and power is developed through what PSE calls the X Tech limb system. Not only is this system inefficient, robbing the limbs of energy, but the system is hard to tune. Other manufacturers use a system that allows the string to slide along a rail. "We have the technology and the ability to manufacture a crossbow unlike any on the market," says Shelby, "Using technology from our archery industry, we knew we could make a crossbow using a free floating arrow design (a nock, string loop, and arrow rest like a compound bow) to create a crossbow that was far superior to any on the market. The TAC-15 differs from standard crossbows in ways other than fitting on an AR lower. With more and more states allowing crossbows during their rifle season and many states expanding the use of crossbows during the regular archery season or holding a special season for the horizontal bow, it is time to look at crossbows in a new light. In addition, we introduced two self-controlled models that include trigger, safety, and buttstock for hunters who do not have an AR-15, but want the performance and accuracy offered by the TAC," says Shelby. For the predator hunter calling close to town, this upper is a natural. Many hunters already own AR lowers and now they can hunt with them during the archery season. Arrows are reusable so they don't have to pay as much to shoot. They can go out and practice trigger control and accuracy. It is just the coolest AR accessory on the market and allows them to shoot their AR even when they don't have access to a rifle range. "Our original market was intended for existing AR enthusiasts.
